Traveling for work or for leisure? Your training doesn’t need to completely stop. Earlier we discussed Drop In – CrossFit Current but if that doesn’t work in your schedule or no Crossfit gym around you, use the hotel gym! There is usually a gym inside the hotel that is equipped with a few sets of dumbbells, a treadmill, and even a few with a Smith Machine cage system. Although we do not use any machines other than rowers and assault bikes, we can use some different options once in a while to still achieve a good workout if we wanted to.

Check and see what the WODs will be for the time you are gone and use your best judgement for what can work best for you. With the possibility of a Smith Machine, they may have a model that has cables used for lat pulldowns or cable rows to mimic the movement of a pull-up. If any weights would be needed, we can always go for the free weights. It’s always an easy set-up and clean up. And we know they can be very effective.
Hotel Room WOD
No gym? No problem! There are PLENTY of different movements you can do with your own body weight. Even using a travel bag can work when wanting to add a bit of weight. Bear hug squats with a weekend bag can give you a challenge. Here is a few different moves you can do to mix and match:
- Jumping squats or lunges
- Sit-ups
- Push-up
- Bodyweight good mornings
- Leg raises
- Russian twists
- Heel taps
- Air squats
- Reverse lunges
- Pike push-ups
- Burpees
- Reverse burpees
- Tuck jumps
Or just going for a jog and adding a mix of 50 air squats, burpees, or situps every 5:00 for a 2 mile jog can get in a great burner. And it gets you outside to enjoy some different views!
